A garden in bloom

Wilberforce House at Pocklington School have been working hard to raise money for WaterAid this year. The Pocklington School community are warmly invited to a final fundraiser, Wilberforce Open Gardens and if the sun comes out it will be a great event!

Wilberforce Open Gardens is a fundraising opportunity where visitors pay a small fee to look around domestic gardens of all sizes, to observe and admire plants, trees and other garden features. All proceeds from this event will go to WaterAid and we hope you will join us in Newton On Derwent to explore some wonderful plots, courtyards and veggie patches.

We hope there will be something for everyone with four diverse gardens: large, medium, small and miniature. There will be stunning rockeries, lush herbaceous borders, tropical strips and even a Greek temple! Tea and cake (baked by our Wilberfprce House students) will be on sale at the Newton On Derwent chapel.

This summer will be Mrs Wilson’s (Wilberforce Housemistress) last year of undertaking home visits for Wilberforce House. Remarkably, she has probably carried out over 150 visits; now she invites you to stop by her garden and share in her horticultural pursuits which is a labour of love when she is not busy in the classroom at Pocklington School.

Mrs Wilson said: “I would love to share my garden with the Pock community and also any OPs who are spending the day in the area – pop out for an hour or so and it will be lovely to see you all.

She adds: "The ethos behind the work of the charity WaterAid is that 'Clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene are basic human rights. They should be a normal part of daily life for everyone, everywhere – but they aren't.' This is why we support this cause and we hope you will show your support for WaterAid."

Entry to the gardens is by wristband only. Please click here to download a booking form and fill in appropriately for priority booking.  Further purchases could be made at Newton on Derwent chapel on the day.
