Lower Sixth form student Amie Mason has had a very successful season with her show pony, Wycroft Da Vinci, winning Supreme Champion at the Countryside Live Show.

Amie competed in the Show Pony Class at the Countryside Live Show, held at the Harrogate Showground over half term.  Amie had to complete a show with Wycroft Da Vinci, whilst the judges observed her pony and judged using a set of criteria such as quality of breed, freedom of movement and equine manners. After winning both her classes (ridden pony and in-hand) Amie was awarded the title of Supreme Champion in the overall competition.

Her love of horses began when she was just four-years old and she is now totally committed to her pastime of competing in show pony competitions and is a member of the White Rose Riding Club.

Amie said: “Before we go to a competition, there is always a lot of work to be done, training and preparing Wycroft Da Vinci so he is presented to look his best.  There is a strict etiquette which rider and pony must follow for competitions, so it is really important to get it just right and attention to detail is everything!”

Amie continued: “During the competitive season, which runs from January to August, I have to get up at 5.30am every morning to train and care for Wycroft Da Vinci. One thing this has taught me is good time management skills, as I still get to school on time and complete my studies!”

Although working with her show pony is a hobby for Amie, she would like to reach the top of the amateur level. Amie recently attended the British Show Pony Society Summer Points Presentation, where she was named Supreme Points Member after gaining the highest number of points during the competitive season, so her goal may not be too far away.

Aime has her eyes set on competing in British Show Pony Society Winter Championships next year – we wish her and Wycroft Da Vinci the best of luck for this challenge.
