The House Bake Off CompetitorsPupils baked some mouth-wateringly gorgeous creations in this year’s annual House Bake Off competition, when they had just two hours to produce their signature bake.

Every house nominated a pupil for each division of the school, often after keenly-contested heats.  The 12 pupils nominated had to recreate their bake for the final, under the watchful eyes of judges.

MacaronsThe resultant creations, which included cakes of various flavours and sizes, colourful buns and beautiful macarons, reflected the huge amount of talent among our star bakers.

Teachers Louise Clarke, Manique Wilson and Anne-Marie Salmon had the enviable task of tasting them all, to judge on taste, technical skill and appearance. After much difficulty deciding, they declared the winners were:

Lower School: Charlie Evison – three-tiered chocolate cake (Dolman) and Ben Vahey - Oreo cake (Wilberforce)

Middle School: Josh Gill - Victoria sandwich cake (Gruggen)

Senior School: Peter Massey - chocolate malt and honeycomb cake (Hutton) and Tiggy Elwes - Macarons (Gruggen)

Chocolate Malt and Honeycomb cakeCookery teacher Anne-Marie Salmon said: “We were extremely impressed by the standard of baking this year; everyone who took part should be very proud of their performance.

“A special mention to Olly Rayner who bravely stepped in to represent Wilberforce with little experience against Tiggy and Peter. He definitely rose to the role of House Captain and helped the younger pupils throughout, a real credit to himself.”
