Year 3 and Year 4 pupils designed and lit their own city as part of this term’s Electricity topic. First they discussed the amenities their community’s residents would need to live, work and relax, then they had to fun task of working together to build the constructions using Lego.

Once the main street took shape, they turned their thoughts to how the city would be powered, from street lighting to the buildings and cars.  They then constructed their own series circuits to conduct electricity.

The classroom lights were dimmed and there was huge excitement as the Lego city came to life with a series of twinkling lights. Pupils used switches, buzzers and motors to discover more about the parts of a circuit, and discussed how to make some lights even brighter.Pocklington Prep School pupils building a lego city

“It was so exciting when we lit up the city! It looked magical!”

“We could build anything we wanted for our city. We made an amazing skyscraper!”

Year 4 class teacher Lizzie Kennedy said: “The project gave so many learning opportunities. The children were architects, town planners, electricians and team players! And to top it all... they were building with Lego!”
