Lower and Middle School pupils from Pocklington School have joined forces with the Pocklington School Charity Committee to spread some Christmas cheer through their involvement in the YorkMix Toy Appeal 2023. The campaign is a collaboration between YorkMix, York Designer Outlet and Asda at Monks Cross, with the goal of ensuring that no child in the region wakes up without a present on Christmas Day.
The Pocklington School Charity Committee registered to collect gift donations, adding to those being taken to collection points around York. The appeal accepts gifts for children of all ages, from babies and pre-schoolers to teenagers. Donations are taken to a warehouse, where they are wrapped by Santa’s little helpers, ready for delivery to children who need them most in the local area.
Laura, co-host of YorkMix show The Breakfast Mix, visited Pocklington School to collect gifts donated by the pupils and interview members of the Charity Committee. The interview aired on the radio show on December 12, where Sixth Form students Ben, Georgia, Honey and Katy highlighted their school charitable work, not just for the YorkMix Toy Appeal but for other national and local charities too. Before the term ends, the Charity Committee aims to spread more festive joy by holding a non-uniform Christmas jumper day. The proceeds from this event will go to A Shining Light, a school-based community charity raising funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust, which aims to provide care and support to every young person facing cancer in the UK.
