OP Veterinary Surgeon, Ed Pettifer (86-93), has been awarded ‘Vet of the Year’ in the recent Yorkshire Post 2017 Rural Awards.

The Yorkshire Post launched the awards to raise the profile of agriculture across Yorkshire and highlight the outstanding work done by farmers.  It was envisaged the awards would inspire youngsters to pursue a career in the Agriculture sector, which is crucial to the country’s economy.

The inaugural Rural Awards ceremony, held at the Pavilions of Harrogate, was hosted by BBC journalist Harry Gration.  After guests enjoyed a delicious three-course meal, the winners of the twelve awards were announced.

Ed was nominated for ‘Vet of the Year’ by one of his peers, who in their testimony, championed Ed’s great energy, enthusiasm for his work and the fantastic bond he forms with the animals in his care.  As well as being a good clinician, Ed was also credited for being a sensible business person, who understands the importance of customer service.

After receiving the award, Ed said: “I am delighted to receive this award.  I consider myself very lucky to have a great job that is so varied, challenging and rewarding that I truly enjoy.  We have a great team of people at our practice who help us to provide both fantastic care to our patients and service for our clients.”

Ed graduated from Edinburgh University in 1998 and is a partner in three Yorkshire veterinary practices: Wicstun Veterinary Group (Pocklington, Market Weighton, South Cave), Norwood Veterinary Group (Beverley) and End Cottage Veterinary Clinic (Howden). He enjoys the variety of mixed practice and has particular interests in small animal orthopaedics and the management of game birds. He is currently studying for a Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery.
