The annual OP Summer Reunion on Sunday 23 June 2019 became a whole weekend of reunions with individual reunions for the ’69, ’79, ’99 and ’09 leavers also taking place In York and Pocklington on the Saturday afternoon and evening before. Some from those year groups also returned to school on the Sunday for lunch and a tour along with a group of ’49 joiners who were marking 70 years since leaving school.
OP President, Trevor Loten (70-80) said a few words of thanks to everyone for coming and to those who had contributed to the day including Malcolm Milne (OPs, 55-62 and former staff 71-03), David Watton (OPs, former staff 87-16) and Doc Dyson (former staff 88-18) as well as the catering staff and the OP office. Sheena McNamee (External Relations Director) spoke on behalf of the Headmaster, Toby Seth, who was unfortunately unable to attend this year but sent his very best wishes to everyone and plans to be there next year.
Later on in the afternoon, there were also guest appearances from David Nuttall (former staff 63-02) and David Rumbelow (former staff 68-06) who called in to say ‘hello’ to a few OPs.
The OP cricket, played in a ‘test match’ format of 45 overs for each team, resulted in a draw (click here for a full report).
The OP tennis was incorporated into the Edmund Loten Inspire mixed doubles tournament due to lack of players. In the Edmund Loten tournament, 8 pairs competed for the trophy in very windy conditions. Frankie Marsh (06-13) and James Sweeting (81-88) were the eventual winners defeating Sue Sumner (former staff 89-10) and Charlie Medforth (09-18) in a tense tie break in the final (click here for full report).
Thank you to all who took part and hope to see you again next year!
The date for next year’s Summer Reunion will be Sunday 28 June 2020.
