Henry Laverack (03-10), Director of the Pocklington Branch of A Laverack & Son Ltd, high quality butchers and bakers, was delighted to collect a prestigious gold award for their 72 day dry aged sirloin steak at the Great British Butchers Show in Harrogate.

The awards are designed to recognise and celebrate innovation and quality in retail butcher shops.  Each product is evaluated by a team of expert judges, consisting of Chefs, Consumers, industry expert and food technologists.  They look for outstanding products and award the producers with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

To enter, Henry had to deliver two 72 day dry aged sirloin steaks to Harper Adams University two weeks before the awards ceremony, which took place at the Harrogate Showground on Sunday 19 May 2019.  After judging, the Laverack Butcher’s steaks scored an impressive 59 out of 60 marks to give them the Gold Award.

On winning the award Henry said: “We are very pleased in getting the recognition for what is a fantastic steak.  We hand select all our primal cuts to then mature in our dry ageing cabinet.  A lot of thought and hard work has gone into making our steaks the best they can possibly be and we are over the moon to have received this award!

Laverack’s Butchers and Bakers is a family business which has been trading in Holme upon Spalding Moor for over 150 years. Their second store opened in Pocklington in 2018.
