The School’s Cricket 1st team enjoyed a tour of Malta during the Easter Holidays, where they trained, played games and built the team’s ethics in preparation for the forthcoming season.
Director of Sport David Byas accompanied the team, who played against Harrow School – managing a draw – and also played a 20/20 game against a team from Romiley Cricket Club, Cheshire, which they lost by five wickets.
The team was based at the Marsa Sports Club, where the Malta national cricket team train, and took advantage of the beautiful warm, dry weather to practise their skills and teamwork.
Mr Byas said: “Playing against the formidable Harrow School in various formats of the game has been tremendous preparation for our boys. Everyone has had the opportunity to play, perform and get much needed time in the middle.
“The highlight of the tour would have to be the drawn game against Harrow, a 40 over game played in test match format with two 20 over innings per team. Standing toe to toe with the Harrow boys was a performance the boys can take great confidence from.”
He added: “This was the School’s third cricket trip to Malta and was once again a huge success. It gave the team the best possible preparation for the forthcoming season - let’s hope for some sunshine to support it, too!”
