On Friday 4th March, the Modern Languages Department were delighted to welcome 20 pupils and 3 teachers from Yapeyu School, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The pupils visited the school as part of their three-week tour around the UK and were very interested to see what life is like at Pocklington School.
Lower Sixth and Fifth Year pupils showed the group around the school site and boarding houses and the visitors took part in language exchange with groups of Fourth Year pupils, where they got to know each other and what school and life in general is like in our respective countries. The pupils found that practising Spanish in a real-life context was thrilling and very rewarding.
Pupils from Yapeyu School had also prepared a quiz about terms and phrases used in Argentina which Pocklington pupils had to guess the meaning of; a hugely enjoyable activity with some fantastic acting from pupils from both schools!
Head of Modern Languages, Nikki Scott-Somers said:
“It was a joy to see pupils from both schools interacting with each other with such enthusiasm and some have made friends in the very short time they were with us.”
