‘The Forest’ theme inspired some beautiful paintings, collages and models in the Prep School’s 2019 House Art competition, with creative entries from all Pocklington Pre-Prep and Prep School children.

As in previous years, the children were able to create their work in any medium of their choice and were encouraged to research and plan their work, which could be an observed or imaginative piece. 

The resulting art covered both temperate and tropical forests, and the trees, plants and animals that inhabit them. Entries included depictions of owls, parrots, toadstools, beautiful foliage and also included some impressive models.

Judges gave Fountains House first prize, with a staggering 249 House points. Rievaulx came second with 221 points, Jervaulx was third with 196 points and, last but not least, Byland with 178 points.

The overall winner, chosen by Pocklington School’s Head of Art, Dan Cimmermann, was Will Foley, whose Jaguar in the Forest painting was his 'Best in Show.' Will was consequently awarded the Pete Edwards House Art Cup, named in honour of the School’s former Head of Art.

Pupils, relatives and friends enjoyed viewing the art for themselves in the annual House Art Exhibition, held in the Prep School Hall at the end of the Lent term.
