Two Pocklington Prep School pupils have won prizes in the annual Walker Morris Children’s Charity Calendar painting competition.

Imogen Spear, now in Year 7, won the coveted front cover and Dora Hotham, now in Year 6, was a runner up. The children were tasked with choosing their favourite month of the year and painting an image inspired by it.

Imogen’s skilful painting was inspired by the autumn and spring colours and “how beautiful the pheasants look in the sunshine.” Runner up Dora painted July because ‘families go to the beach in July when it’s hot”.

Imogen was presented with an artist’s hamper by renowned Yorkshire artist Ashley Jackson and Walker Morris Partner Jeremy Moore at the law firm’s offices in Leeds last month. She also won £250 for the Prep School Art Department.

Now in its 24th year, the competition saw a record number of infant, primary and junior school entries, with over 60 schools taking part. The judges selected 13 winners, including the front cover, and 27 runners-up. The winning entries have been combined to produce a colourful charity calendar that will be sold in aid of Martin House Hospice. Martin House provides family-led care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and supports families across Yorkshire both at the hospice and in the community.

Pocklington Prep School Art teacher Sarah Green said, “The Walker Morris Charity Calendar is a great opportunity for the pupils to showcase their talent. The whole of Year 2 to Year 6 worked hard on their entries in school and we are delighted that two Prep School pupils were prize winners.”

David Smedley, Chairman and calendar competition judge said: “As always, we are absolutely amazed by the exceptional artistic talent the young children in our region possess. The quality and the creativity of the artwork is a credit to the children, their teachers and the schools.”

Calendars are now on sale for £6 with all monies raised going to Martin House Hospice. Please contact gemma.carrodus@walkermorris.co.uk or tel +44 (0)113 283 2500.
