Girls’ trampolining teams from Pocklington Prep and Senior Schools have both qualified for the Northern Finals of the British Gymnastics Association National Schools Trampolining Championships.

Thirteen Prep School pupils entered the Under 11 Novice category of the Yorkshire round of the competition, held in Hull in early December.

The Prep’s A team of Hannah Burt, Maisie Burt, Niamh Cowen and Isabelle Dimmack finished runners up in their competition, which qualified them for the Northern Zonal round at Huddersfield in February. Maisie finished third which also qualifies her as an individual for the next round.

The other pupils competing were: Fran Benson, Laura Brookes, Lara Dettmar, Lily Gill, Amy Harrison-Little, Olivia Marr, Lucinda Parkes, Isabelle Sweeting and Faye Wilkinson.

Games teacher i/c Trampolining, Jan Kilsby said: “As usual all the girls stepped up to the mark and I was very proud in the way they conducted themselves in a competition which had 44 competitors from across Yorkshire.”

The Senior School’s Under 13 A team of Lucy Grewer, Ally Law and Scarlett McMullen also finished runners up and qualified for the next stage of the competition. Scarlett, like Maisie, finished in third place overall and qualified for the Northern Finals. The B team of Pippa Byron, Lucy Harrison-Little and Daisy Luckett just missed out on qualifying. There were 48 girls in the category.

Ellie Harrison-Little competed at Under 15 level. Ellie had been ill recently but still managed to participate and secure what would normally be a good score, but in this company did not secure next round qualification.

Livi Dytham was entered into the Under 19 Elite category, which attracted entrants who compete at an international level. Competitors in this category also perform on a "springier" bed which sends pupils to heights beyond those which Livi is used to on the Sports Hall trampolines.

Mrs Kilsby said: “A special well done to Livi for demonstrating great nerve, bravery and skill. Livi was also very valuable in helping to prepare the younger girls on the day and calming their nerves. It was great to have such parental support, too, on what was a long day with great reward.”
