Saturday 9 December 2017 saw the Pocklington School community come together for the annual Friends of Pocklington School Ball,  which this year was held at The Principal Hotel in York.

The guests were warmly greeted by the hotel staff, and enjoyed a glass of prosecco whilst they mingled  with friends.  Very quickly, the reception area was filled with chatter, laughter and anticipation for the night ahead.

At 7:45pm guests went through to the dining and dancing area. The Welcome was followed by a fun game of heads and tails, the lucky winner receiving a chocolate Santa. Grace was said before dinner then began.

Whilst the guests were enjoying dinner, a slide show was presented to summarise how the money raised at Friends of Pocklington School events had been donated to help projects within School.

Raffle PrizesOn display on the dance floor, was the huge array of raffle prizes which had been generously donated, many of them by parents of the School. There was a variety of different drinks, beauty treatments, cycle accessories, family entry to a Jazz festival with camping pass, a Christmas hamper  and a family pass to the refurbished Jorvik Viking Centre to name but a few.  Raffle tickets were sold and drawn and prizes were joyfully collected.

With the formalities of dinner over, it was time to open the dance floor with music provided by a live DJ. However, it was not the DJ choosing the tunes; for a small donation, guests had been given the opportunity to 'Choose their Jam!'  Our guests obviously had very good taste, as the dance floor was full from the start to the very end, at 1am, when carriages departed!

The evening certainly seemed to be very enjoyable and the Committee are very appreciative of the positve comments received  on the night and following the event.

Natasha Birch, Chair of Friends of Pocklington School said: "I would like to thank all those who came to the Ball and supported this event, the Friends Committee members for all their efforts from the start of the project with finding a new venue, the advertising, invites and sponsorship flyers, the administration of menus and tickets, organising of raffle prizes and support on the night, helping ensure the smooth running of the event."

The final total is yet to be confirmed but the night is expected to have raised in excess of £2000, which is due to the support of our School community, friends and the kind and generous donation of raffle prizes.

Thank you.
