Prep School children have been making the most of the Art and Design Technology Centre’s facilities to create a beautiful array of ornaments for Christmas.

Year 6 pupils used the specialist ceramics room to make individually-designed candle holders out of clay, in a project lasting several weeks. Supervised by art teacher Sarah Green, and with the help of Claire Castle they crafted the holders by hand, then decorated them with Christmas cut-outs, including holly leaves, stars and hearts. The beautifully-festive gold and silver holders were glazed and fired in the Centre’s impressive kiln and topped off with battery-fired candles, ready to add a Christmassy glow at home.

Year 1 pupils and their teacher Bonnie Steel also enjoyed the Centre’s impressive facilities and light, airy studios during a Christmas-themed design technology afternoon organised by School DT Technician Nick Hamilton.

They painted and added glitter to wooden Christmas trees, coloured in tree decorations with bells and holly, and put their names on Christmas baubles for the class’s wooden Christmas tree. The class also used the laser cutter to cut out a Santa being pulled along in his sleigh by Rudolf - and rounded off a very creative few hours by making their own key rings.
