Pocklington School’s clay pigeon shooting teams were on top form in the recent Yorkshire Schools Open Challenge, with every team winning their category.

The competition, at Park Lodge Shooting Ground near Snaith, East Yorkshire, was well-attended by other schools from the area, attracting teams from Ampleforth, QEGS Wakefield and Cundall Manor, as well as individually-registered shooters.

Our teams won Senior Boys Team (by ten targets over QEGS), Girls Team and Intermediate Boys Team titles. The boys’ 'Highest Gun' prize for the best individual score was a draw between Jack Nutt and Ed Wraith, who both scored 45 out of a possible 50.

The Girls Team and Intermediate Boys Team have several new members this year and they all conquered any nerves to perform admirably.

Second Year pupils Anna Wraith and Lizzie Wake supported regulars Emma Farnsworth and Emma Falkingham (both L6), to secure the team title for a second year.

The intermediates had three new members from the Second Year, Joe Colley, Lucas Walton and Toby Williamson. Again, they strongly supported the two remaining regulars to win the class for a second year.

Steven Ryan, Technical Manager at the Tom Stoppard Theatre, who runs the squads with Pocklington School’s Director of Sport David Byas, said: “Both the shooting skills and the conduct of our pupils made me proud to be part of the Pock School Shooting teams. As always, we were well supported by a large group of parents, which helped enormously.”

The team members were:

Senior Boys: Jack Nutt; James Wraith; Ed Wraith; Will Falkingham; Tom Duggleby

Intermediate Boys: Harry Lee; Lucas Walton; Henry Falkingham; Toby Williamson; Joe Colley

Girls: Emma Farnsworth; Emma Falkingham; Lizzie Wake; Anna Wraith
