Pocklington School and the British Association for American Studies are delighted to host a schools conference on ‘US Politics and American Government’, on Thursday, February 23, 2023.
The day is aimed at A-Level students studying Government & Politics, or US History, and will include talks by a number of leading experts on US politics and society.
Sessions will consider both the ‘mechanics & institutions’ of American government, and the impact that major social issues, such as abortion and civil rights, have had on the texture and direction of recent US politics. Talks will include the effect of midterm elections; the place of the recent US Supreme Court; shifting policies around abortion; and the relationship between the US civil rights movement and the branches of government.
