Third Year pupils racked up three 1^st places at the Humberside Schools Secondary Athletics Championships in an impressive display which also broke two School records.

Carmen Brooks, Henry Rodmell and Lucas Walton each gained a first place at the event, held at a very windy Costello Stadium in Hull and involving pupils from Hull, the East Riding, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.

Carmen was placed first in the Shot Putt, with her 9.68m throw beating the School record and finishing comfortably ahead of the second longest throw of 9.10m. She also came third in the Girls 200m, with an impressive performance just shy of her personal best.

Henry Rodmell finished first in the 200m and sixth in the Shot Putt in performances which were also close to his personal bests.

Lucas Walton came first in the triple jump, with a personal best 9.94m jump which was well ahead of the second-placed jump of 9.06m. It broke the School record and also broke his previous personal best which was set only three weeks earlier, at the Humberside County Athletics Championships.

At this earlier meeting, Lucas’s U15 triple jump performance earned him a gold medal along with the title '2019 Humberside County Triple Jump Champion.’ A dramatic U15 800m performance – which saw him progress from last place at the 400m mark to pass the rest of the field in the final 200m and finish first with a personal best of 2.21.77 – earned him a second gold medal with the title '2019 Humberside County 800M Champion'. Lucas didn’t manage to repeat this impressive 800m feat at the Schools Championships, but still performed well to finish a creditable 4^th.

Georgia Hird, Graduate Sports Assistant who accompanied the pupils to the schools event, said: “The three pupils represented the school extremely well in testing weather conditions with a strong head wind. We are now awaiting confirmation as to whether any of them will progress to compete at the English Schools Championships in July which has been dubbed the 'mini Olympics".
